Restaurant Tech Report 2026: A 43-Signup Cohort

Correction published August 8, 2026: The first version of this report mixed incompatible funnel counts and incorrectly described the QR-download rate as both 23% and 47%. We re-ran the historical cohort with one definition: 43 unique users recorded a signup_completed event from April 18 through May 15, 2026. Within seven days of each signup, 32 created a menu, 20 published one, and 11 downloaded a QR code. That is 74%, 47%, and 26% of the cohort, respectively.

Google Search Console recorded 35 clicks and 2,507 impressions from May 9 to May 15, compared with 14 clicks and 1,027 impressions from May 2 to May 8. This supports a search-visibility increase during the strongest signup week, but it does not prove that Google Search caused those signups.

Why We're Publishing This

Every restaurant-tech blog post on the internet cites somebody else's data. "According to MenuTiger's 2026 forecast..." "According to Toast's 2024 survey..." "Restaurant Dive reports 88% of..." The result: AI search engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) end up citing the original source — MenuTiger, Toast, Restaurant Dive — and never Menujo. That's a fair outcome when we have nothing original to say.

So we're publishing what's actually happening on the platform: which restaurants are signing up, what types of menus they're creating, how quickly they're publishing, and where their customers are scanning from. The numbers below are pulled directly from our production database — no marketing spin, no aspirational claims. If the conversion rate is X%, we say X%. If the sample size is 40, we say 40, not "thousands."

This is the first in what we plan to make a monthly recurring report.

Methodology

The corrected funnel uses production user_events records. The cohort contains each unique user whose first signup_completed event occurred from 2026-04-18 00:00:00 UTC through 2026-05-15 23:59:59 UTC. Each outcome is counted once per user only when the corresponding event occurred from signup time up to, but not including, seven days later.

  • Denominator: 43 unique signup users.
  • Menu created within seven days: 32 users.
  • Menu published within seven days: 20 users.
  • QR downloaded within seven days: 11 users.

The query was re-run on August 8, 2026. Historical event data may include corrections or backfills made after the original May publication. Search Console totals are reported separately and are not joined to individual user records.

Finding 1: Signups and Search Visibility Rose in the Final Week

The cohort contained 5 signups from April 25 to May 1, 10 from May 2 to May 8, and 28 from May 9 to May 15. No signup event was recorded from April 18 to April 24.

In Google Search Console, clicks increased from 14 to 35 and impressions increased from 1,027 to 2,507 when comparing May 2 to May 8 with May 9 to May 15. Average position improved from 14.69 to 9.16. These trends happened at the same time, but Search Console does not identify which users signed up or establish causation.

Finding 2: Seven-Day Activation Outcomes

Of the 43 signup users, 32 created a menu within seven days, 20 published one, and 11 downloaded a QR code. Rounded to whole percentages, the funnel is 74% created, 47% published, and 26% downloaded a QR code.

The earlier 47% QR-download claim was incorrect. It used a different count from the one described elsewhere on the page. This corrected version applies the same seven-day window to every outcome and does not label the result top-decile because the original article did not provide a comparable, independently sourced benchmark.

Finding 3: 36 Active Menus → 1,715 Public Views

The platform has 36 published menus serving customers right now. Those menus have collectively logged 1,715 public views across their lifetimes — meaning customers actually scanning QR codes or tapping links to view the menu on their phones. That's a 47-views-per-menu average, but the distribution is heavily skewed.

The top 5 menus by view count (May 2026):

  1. ONE PIECE PIZZA — 331 views (pizzeria)
  2. Suchi Restaurant — 113 views (sushi)
  3. ROLF Menu — 67 views
  4. SHOXONA MENU — 67 views
  5. Isadora.Coffee — 65 views (specialty coffee)

The single-day peak was Saturday May 10 with 254 views across 20 menus — restaurant peak service. That's the day a digital menu is designed to earn its keep: high-volume Saturday night service where servers aren't running between tables explaining the menu.

Finding 4: Regional Search Data Is Directional

Search Console can show where impressions and clicks occurred, but it cannot show why an operator chose Menujo or whether word of mouth caused a branded search. Country-level differences are useful for choosing languages and topics to investigate. They are not, by themselves, proof of brand recognition or product-market fit in a region.

Finding 5: Time to Publish for the Seven-Day Cohort

Twenty of the 43 signup users published a menu within seven days. Among those 20 publishers, the median time from signup to the first publication event was 10.2 minutes and the average was 124.3 minutes. The fastest was 1.3 minutes and the slowest was about 24.4 hours.

This describes the users who published within seven days. It does not describe all signups, and it should not be read as a guarantee that every restaurant will publish in that time.

Limitations of This Data

  • Small cohort: 43 signups can reveal product questions, but it is not enough for broad industry conclusions.
  • Event coverage: The analysis depends on product events being recorded correctly. Historical backfills or corrections can change a re-run.
  • Seven-day window: Users who completed an action after seven days are not counted in the funnel.
  • No user-level Search Console attribution: Search clicks and signups are separate aggregate datasets, so correlation does not establish causation.
  • Historical menu-view figures: View records are retained for a limited period, so some figures from the original May snapshot cannot be reproduced from raw events in August.

What We Will Do Next

Future original-data reports will use a saved query, one cohort definition, a clear observation window, and a dated correction history. Menujo will publish another report when there is a sufficiently large and useful cohort, rather than promising a monthly schedule that may not be sustainable.

Aggregate counts (signups, view totals, conversion rates) are platform-wide and don't reveal individual restaurant data. We named the top 5 most-viewed menus because their menu pages are already publicly accessible — naming the menu name is no different than what their QR code already does. How can I cite the stats in this report?

The corrected cohort contains 43 unique users with a signup_completed event from April 18 through May 15, 2026. It is a small sample, so the findings describe Menujo product behavior in that window and should not be generalized to the restaurant industry.

Why is the sample size only 40 restaurants?

This report does not assign an industry percentile. Comparisons require a benchmark with the same product type, denominator, event definition, and observation window. The corrected Menujo result is 11 of 43 signup users downloading a QR code within seven days, or about 26%.
